REFRACTION

The humble prism is a simplistic device but has the power to explain colour to the world. Shine a light through it and it refracts into its component parts; the very epitome of a rainbow. What was once simple has been transformed into Refraction, an energetic, abstract piece of art.

 

By using those strong, bold colours of the rainbow, Kyson allows the colours to refract vertically through a black ‘prism’ at the centre of the canvas. The colours seem to ouse from the edges of the frame, crossing each other until the reach the centre, when they undergo a straight transformation through the ‘anti-prism’ before continuing their path to meet their counterparts on the opposing edge. The hand-stitched thread shares the space with paint to create beautiful clutter through the medium of art.
