INTERFERENCE

Question. When can stunning colours also be dark and chaotic? The answer is both simple and beautiful; when there’s Interference. By subverting our expectation of the word itself, the Interference aspect of The Lines collection uses sheer ribbons overlapping and overlaid on the painted colours of the canvas underneath. By layering and structuring the art in this way, the seemingly chaotic patterns contrast the strong bold colours we always associate with a rainbow, with the black ribbons.

 

Is it just a question of colour vs. darkness? Well that’s a question for the viewer to answer for themselves, but it’s rarely that simple. The lightness and colours move horizontally across the art in randomised patterns, whereas the darkness is represented by the chaotic black ribbons, moving every which way to challenge everyone who sees it. Which is interfering with the other? It’s time for you to decide.
