DISPERSION

Dispersion is probably the most aptly named piece of work within The Lines collection. You will be familiar with a rainbow, produced by the separation of light into colours through the internal reflection in atmospheric water droplets. Kyson has interpreted this beautiful piece of scientific discovery into a strong, bold piece of art using the beautiful colours of a rainbow we are familiar with, against a backdrop of black and white.

 

By combining traditional paint and hand-stitched embroidered threads, Dispersion asks the viewer to look at colour in two ways. The central composition of the piece has colours criss-crossing a black rectangle at all angles. When they reach the edge, the geometric straight lines disperse horizontally and vertically in a much more organic way. The colours take on a new energy when viewed against the now white canvas.
